Shedd Aquarium opened in 1929 and is one of the oldest public aquariums in the world. The animals at Shedd are naturally the stars of the show: where sharks patrol, dolphins leap, and fishes from around the world school together, but the facility itself dates back to the 1920s and you will find has its own interesting story. Sail the Pacific Northwest on a whale-watching cruise, go eye-to-eye with a piranha, or follow a sea turtle in her Caribbean habitat. With more than 22,000 animals representing 1,500 species, you'll have a full day at the Shedd.

Hours: Winter weekdays, Labor Day - Memorial Day, daily 9:00 am - 5:00 pm;
Winter weekends and holidays, 9:00 am - 6:00 pm;
Summer: Memorial Day - Labor Day, daily 9:00 am - 6:00 pm
Closed: Christmas Day. All holidays are subject to change without notice.

Take CTA: Red, orange, or green line to the Roosevelt Road/Museum Campus stop. From
Roosevelt Road take eastbound CTA bus #12. From State Street downtown,
North Michigan Avenue, or north side of Chicago, take CTA bus #146 Marine

By car: From Lake Shore Drive, exit at 18th Street. Follow signs to Museum Campus and park at Soldiers Field. Shedd is just to the north of the parking garage.
